First impressions are so important and you can't take them back. The way you present yourself is what folks remember and it creates a pattern of how they will treat you in the future. I always advise my children that the way they act and present themselves to the world will be reflected in how the world reacts to them. It is a big life lesson but one I cannot stress enough.

Personal hygiene plays a big part in this lesson. It is simple to maintain a clean fresh look with basic hair care, dental hygiene and some fragrance perfume. I tell my kids that hair care begins with simple washing at least every other day also to keep it combed and well groomed. Their hair care includes regular cuts and trims. Their teeth must be brushed in the morning and again at night with flossing and the use of mouth wash. I do let the kids use some kind of fragrance although it may be infused with body lotion. 

All this attention hair care, dental hygiene and smelling fresh is not lost on my children. We have a check station every morning before they leave the house. I temper it with the humbling assertion that we need not be vain just proud of the way we look and present ourselves to the world.
