fragrance perfume, hair careWe live in an era in which political correctness means we are not supposed to judge others by their outward appearance. Yet I think that the way a person looks and smells has never been more important than it is today because mass media has upped the ante. I only have to go inside my step-granddaughter’s bedroom to realize that such things are now considered more significant than ever regardless of whether it is right or wrong. In my granddaughter’s bedroom are bottles of body lotions and fragrance perfume along with hair care products like styling gel and a straightening iron. There are even tubes of lip gloss and bottles of nail polish. That might not sound like much but my step-granddaughter is only eleven years old. When I was her age I didn’t own a bottle of good quality fragrance perfume or use straightening irons. Nor did I wear nail polish or lip gloss. I did not start taking an interest in such things until I was 13 or 14 years old. My mother did not start primping and preening before she was 15 or 16. To me the fact that girls take an interest in fragrance perfume, hair care and make up at an earlier age with each generation shows that how we look and smell is considered extremely significant.
